Motivational Speaker – The brain's auto-leveling system (NNOS Studios of Ohio)

As a motivational speaker and coach, I talk about success. I speak on setting goals and for success, and how it’s the differentiating factor between a success and a failure. We read motivational articles written by the best speakers and success coaches on setting and achieving goals. But what about the scientific end of it? The why?

Many of you know that I’m a motivational speaker and success coach on the principles of success…the hows and whys. For those of you who don’t know, I get into the science of these steps…the faculties and mechanisms that are accessed in the brain. Today, I’m going to talk briefly about the psycho-cybernetic mechanism.

The psycho-cybernetic mechanism is an auto-leveling system for the brain. It is designed to maintain a set of instructions. It is designed to keep you at your programmed level of success. No more and no less. Let’s take a closer look.

Let’s say we’re looking at a chart. Zero is in the middle. The numbers above the 0 are 1,2,3 and so on. The numbers below are the 0 are -1,-2,-3 and so on. If our level of success is at the zero position(whatever that number may be in actuality), every time we drop below, to say -1 or -2, the auto-leveling system kicks on the jets and brings us back up to zero. The “jets” in the brain are a chemical that the brain releases, that cause doubt, fear and anxiety. The same thing happens if we cross above the zero, to say 1 or 2. The brain sends the chemical and brings us back to zero.

This is because the body likes comfort zones. So when dealing with success, if you are trying to set a goal that is beyond your comfort zone, your body will think that you’re going off-track and will start sending you feelings of doubt, fear, anxiety and so on, to try and cause you to cease your pursuit. This is why within 3 years, 85 percent of the people that win the lottery end up in the same, or worse position than what they were before.

The system can work in your favor, also. But you have to learn how to change the settings on the psycho-cybernetic mechanism. Change happens from the inside out. Success happens, once you’ve changed from within.

How to Motivate Yourself in 9 Easy Ways

Lost your drive?  Feeling uninspired?  Don’t get too comfortable lying down.  Get on your feet and motivate yourself in 9 easy ways as follows:

1) Think happy thoughts.  Visualize happy scenes.  When you are happy, your mood is naturally lifted and it’s easier to re-start your engine.

2) Are you chewing more than you can digest?  Break down the task into a series of smaller, doable bite size pieces.  In this way, you will not be overwhelmed by the task on hand and can focus on one small bite a time.

3) Celebrate every achievement.  When you complete a task on hand, even a relatively small task, reward yourself with something you enjoy.  It can be an ice-cream, a good meal or going for a rejuvenating massage.

4) Keep a journal on your achievements.  Build on your success.  With every achievement, your confidence will soar and you will be motivated to achieve more.

5) Don’t compare yourself with others.  Instead pit against yourself.  Review your achievements regularly and you will be pleasantly surprised by how much you have achieved.

6) Remember to incorporate fun factor in your day or even in your task.  You can arrange a bowling game after work or make the party late for meeting tell a story.

7) Form healthy support network.  They can be the colleagues whom you work closely with, parents of your child’s friends or your friends.  Get together often.  Keep the bond strong.  When you need a pep up, they are a good source to turn to.

8)  Feed yourself generously on motivational words.  Read motivational articles and books.  Listen to motivational tapes and CDs.  Reach out and fill up your motivational reservoir.

9)  Keep pictures of people or things that provide strong motivation around you.  Have family pictures on your desk.  Have the picture of your dream car on your screen saver.  Paste motivational stickers on your desk, your mirror or your fridge door.

Come on, you can do it!  Get up and get going.
