The Outliers – How Motivational Speakers Promote The Story Of Success!
“Tough situations don’t last but tough people do”, that’s the truth behind successful achievers. We are all familiar with Malcolm Gladwell’s famous book, which deals with the factors contributing to phenomenal success. He discusses the cases of people you have proved their mettle, like Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, the rock band Beatles and many more, addressing them as “outliers”. According to him “outliers” are people who do not fit into our normal understanding of achievement, but go way beyond. That’s what we all aim to be in the one coveted life that we have: outliers!
Despite being endowed with impressive talents and encountering the best opportunities in life, success could still be a far fetched dream for many. Business entrepreneurs and leaders are in continuous pursuit of true success, for their teams in particular and organization as a whole. Motivational speakers are hired by many to ensure unflinching dedication and focus, which surely makes success much more achievable. Able orators can pack a true punch with their words and inspire the entire workforce to put in their best. Most of them have sound functional knowledge in the given domains and can relate to the associated obstacles, offering simple solutions for the same.
How Can Motivational Speakers Use Outliers as True Examples?
There are several ways in which a motivational speaker can use examples of established outliers skillfully in order to drive home a point with conviction. Some of the ways in which such speakers could use these stories include:
1.Sometimes, a team may just lose its momentum altogether, not knowing how to regain it and from where. There is an impending gloom that pervades the team environment, possibly as a result of subsequent episodes of failure. In the given situation, an able orator could pick up instances from the lives of outliers and show them how he picked himself up from similar situations.
2.Alternatively, successful teams might stagnate quite often. They get entrapped into a feeling of complacency and end up with the same achievement levels each year. A professional speaker can actually motivate them to scale newer heights and help them to become the actual “outliers” in the organization. He should delve into the minds of successful business professionals and unravel their thinking process before his audience. This could be a highly interesting and informative analysis for them.
3. A motivational talk is the ideal way to introduce fresh and creative ideas into the organization. Sometimes an entrepreneur would be strongly convinced about introducing a new idea into the system, which would be able to help him attain newer heights of success. Convincing the workforce about it could be difficult. Motivational speakers can provide excellent case studies referring to stalwarts like Bill Gates, who have built their organizations on their own terms successfully and efficiently.

Your Environment: A Determining factor to your Success
In his book Blink, Malcolm Gladwell covers a topic on Priming The Subconscious Mind. I feel there is an interesting point being exercised here, and would like to share it with you. He mentions about a very curious test conducted by a psychologist named John Bargh, called the Priming Experiment.
Imagine that you are going to see John Bargh at his office. His office is located at the far end of the hallway, and there is a long corridor leading up to it. Once you are inside you are requested to answer a brief test. In this test, you are handed a sheet of paper with a list of five-word sentences, which are scrambled. You have to reframe the words to make it grammatically correct. The words look something like this…
a) him was worried she always
b) shoes give replace old the
c) be will sweat lonely they
Okay, now to the main part. You might have thought that it’s a simple test. But it’s not. The strange thing is that on your way out of the room, you would have walked down the corridor at a slower pace than when you walked in. It’s surprising, isn’t it? That test actually affected your behavior. Why? Because of the word inserted in there – worried, old, lonely. These words caused your subconscious mind to change your behavior without you even noticing it. That’s the strange thing.
In similar tests, when students were exposed to sentences interspersed with words like rude, disturb, bother, etc., they acted aggressively and lost patience when someone blocked their way out in the corridor. On the other hand they displayed patience and calmness when they were exposed to words like considerate, polite, courteous, etc. Isn’t it amazing how words can affect our behavior and actions dramatically?
Now why I am sharing this with you? – Because I want to highlight the importance of your environment and it’s influence on your personal success. This is exactly the reason why it is stressed that if you are not happy with the way you life if being lived, if you not happy with your success levels, if you are not happy with your financial situation, take a look at the world around you. Maybe you are hanging around with the wrong people, watching the wrong movies, listening to the wrong songs, reading the wrong books, etc. If a human’s behavior can be influenced by a few words, then imagine being exposed to a lifetime of negative words.
I personally have fallen prey to the wrong environment many times. I distinctly remember when in college, I went from a failure to a topper just by changing my environment. It was an amazing transformation. So if you seek success, it is highly necessary that you find yourself an environment conducive to success – mingle with other success-oriented people, read good books, watch only good movies, listen to good songs, etc. As it’s said, “It starts with you, It end with you”.
All the best and God Bless.

Do You Have Talents or Skills?
Talents and Skills do you know what are the differences in the two? An illustration of talent is. You may be born with talent in drawing, you can draw the most beautiful drawing since young. However, if you do not put in effort to continue drawing and focusing your time and energy to nurture talents, chances of you becoming a successful artist is slim.
How about Skills? Skills developed through pure hard work in training to become better each day. To excel in what you do, you got to do whatever it take to become better each day. When the others are sleeping, you work. When the others are having fun, you work harder. Skills are being developed with effort. And it can easily replace a talented person with little dedication.
In Outliers a book written by Malcolm Gladwell, he wrote a chapter on the 10000 hours rule. It talks about successful people who became successful not because they are purely talented but because they are talented and committed to put in hours and hours of practice amounting up to 10,000 hours.
He cited an example of a group of students in a music school. All the students who enter this school have to go through an examination and were hand-picked talents. However, why is it so that not all turn out to be successful musicians?
They did an interview with those who achieved stardom and those who are music school teachers. All are graduates from the same school of the same time. They found out that the differences between them were the hours and hours of practice they put in when they were young and during music school. Those who spent more than 10000 hours in practice were successful musicians and those who spent less than 10000 eventually became normal music school teachers.
It is the same as any successful athletes. I watched a video on China’s gymnastic team, the girls entered the academy at a young age. All they do were to training every single day for hours and hours. They have not gone home for many years and only seen their parents for once or twice a year. They trained endlessly for the Olympic gold medal dream and yes they fully deserved it.
So, do not worry that you do not have talent in anything. It can be replaced with skills and still be successful. If you have talents develop on it and be successful. Find a good mentor and your learning curve will expand exponentially as you will avoid the mistakes they make and learn their 30 to 40 years of experiences in a short time frame of 2 to 3 years or maybe even lesser.
What is stopping you now? Develop your skills and act now.
