Finding Joy In the Simple Things
Where is the joy in life? It seems that everything in the world has gotten so crazy and busy that we don’t take the time to look for the joy around us. How can we find the joy and bring it into our lives?
There is joy all around us, but that is not what we seem to focus on. The way of the world seems to focus on the negative and what is wrong. Just watch the news. We hear of war, famine, crime, etc. There isn’t much happiness in the evening news.
Finding joy is not as hard as we think. It is everywhere from the beauty of nature to the laugh of a child. We are just so trained to look for the negative and to be cautious that we overlook what is right before our eyes. When was the last time you played hide and seek? If you want to hear the music of a child’s laugh, just listen when they discover your ‘perfect’ hiding place.
What are a few ways you can bring the joy of life into your home? Here are a few suggestions:
Go for a walk. That’s right, a simple walk. Not a brisk walk with your head down and a destination in mind, a stroll through the park or around your neighborhood. Let your body and mind relax and listen. Can you hear the birds and children playing? What are the smells and sights you experience? See everything in a different way and find joy in the beauty of nature.
Play a game. How long has it been since you played a game of Monopoly or Scrabble? Taking the time to play a game will relax your mind and give you social interaction that you may be missing. With all of the technology that has entered our lives, we spend more and more time isolated with an electronic device. Take time to shut off the electronics and play a good, old fashioned board game with your family and friends. You will build great memories!
Watch an old movie. Remember the great movies from years gone by? Rent a family favorite, or an oldie you would like to share with your family. Pop popcorn and make it a movie night, maybe this could become a monthly tradition?
You can find joy in the world today and it isn’t in the news. Joy is found in the little pleasures of life that sometimes get forgotten in the shuffle. Take the time to find joy in your life – you will be glad you did!

What To Do If The Negative Person In Your Life Is A Family Member
Negative vibes can affect your life in an adverse way, I don’t care who you are. The reason is because it not only impacts your day-to-day life but also the people around you.
There seems at times to be a lot of people who rather enjoy, or at least have the habit of spreading negativity in people’s lives. But do you realize that there are just as many people who love to focus on the positive as those that enjoy focusing on the negative? Those are the type of people you need to cling to.
But what do you do when the negative person is a family member? What do you do if that person harps and harps and harps and doesn’t let up? It’s not an easy situation, especially if the family member is someone who lives with you. But it can be dealt with. And here are a few suggestions:
1) Change the subject. You have so much power in conversation, which is a two-way street after all.
2) If the person continues to harp, try to make a joke out of whatever they’re complaining about and then steer the conversation into something positive.
3) Walk away and spend quality time alone in a balanced and neutral state.
4) Tell the person how much it bothers you to hear about negative things and how although you empathetic with their concerns, you’d rather not dwell on it.
5) And if those things haven’t changed your family environment into a positive, it may be time to take steps to move into a different situation, whatever that means to you.
Your life is more important than anything and it our God-given right to expect and receive happiness.
