Letting go while holding on for dear life

Letting go while holding on for dear life

My goodness we people can be such creatures of habits. If we aren’t careful we will spend our entire lives being just an older version of our younger self. In my case I think my parents should have gave me the middle name of Gonna. One day I am gonna do this and I am gonna do that just as soon as…….I am going to…..I promise you I am the one person who has never ever had any bad habits.

My bad habits had me wrapped up, tied up and bound. I could put my life on pause in a second and leave it there for the right moment. The right moment was not coming but since I was also the queen of excuses, I could always give you the reason. I don’t have time because, I have to many things to do, so I will get to it next week, do you realize how fast that week turned into a year and that year into a decade and……

It took me a while to learn that a lot of my pains, pressures and problems were simply symptoms that were trying to instigate change in my life. Sad but true, the only way I was going to really change was to have a dire consequence. Drop the weight or develop type 2 diabetes! Work hard at keeping passion and excitement in your marriage or it will become just a boring relationship! Give your kid more of you not more stuff or they will simply become empty people trying to fill an emotional void with stuff that never satisfies! My list could go on and on but my main problem was how to change? How to really change?

How do you let go while holding on for dear life? For me the solution materialized, when I came to the realization, that if I changed the way I thought about something it would eventually change the way I acted.

I learned to let go, of my dearly cherished, old habits by holding on tightly to what I wanted to become. It was and still is a totally mental and spiritual game. While my peers were busy telling me how they could never go without eating junk food. My mind was thinking of the benefits that come from healthy eating. I became prepared for health. My desire for good food became stronger than my desire for junk.

Instead of getting excited by a high calorie dessert, or a decadent feast. I became excited about becoming stronger, healthier and in shape. I would learn to do the uncomfortable things that would harness excellent results instead of doing the feel good, easy stuff that wastes valuable time.

I am no longer afraid to grow older, because I am prepared. I now knew it is possible to be a strong and vibrant 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 year old. I now know how to let go while holding on for dear life. I no longer have to try and try and try to change my actions only to stay in the same situation feeling like a failure. I still occasional visit the land of gonna, but I don’t hang around too long.  Now I have discovered that as I change the way I think I change the person I am.

Program yourself for success, be willing to pay the price and unleash your awesome potential. You are made from quality material….believe it… act upon it… flourish and grow.

3 Factors That Make Procrastination Worse

I have a confession to make – here… today. I am a recovering procrastinator who sometimes finds myself going back into bad habits. Say, for example, I have a fifteen page paper due in eight weeks. I will wait until 2 days prior to the due date before even starting the paper. The worst part about procrastination is that it is contagious. Since becoming infected I have influenced those around me to delay the start date of their projects.

My procrastination has actually effected other areas of my life. If I am asked to show up somewhere at 3:00pm I will generally arrive at 3:05pm (on a good day). Most of the time I really have no reason to be late. For a while I could blame it on my small baby, but now he is 2 and it’s not as socially acceptable to blame it on him anymore.

Anyway, here are some things I’ve tried that absolutely do not work. I share them with you, in case you suffer from procrastinatia (we’ll call it that for the sake of this article). Now, maybe you can avoid these techniques, save yourself some time and address the root of the problem.

Getting up early

Sure, it seems like a sound idea. I will just wake up in plenty of time to do everything I have to do. The odd thing is I will always find something else to do, just long enough that I will be late. Oh, there’s another sock to pick up. Whoops forgot to start the laundry. Oh, I’ll just scrub these two dishes. (I’m making it sound like I live in a very dirty house – ok, no arguing there.)

Accountability

I am a procrastinator (say it out loud). I put things off until the last minute. I’ve been accountable for years, but still no chance for improvement. I think denial may have at least gotten me a few places on time or submitting at least one term-paper before midnight the night it was due.

Keep a calendar

Ah, anticipation. Certainly if I know it’s coming up I will prepare ahead of time. Wrong. I’ve even logged down to the last minute each and every, baby step I needed to take to complete a project and what happens is – that’s right I actually procrastinate the baby steps until I look at my calendar and realize that I haven’t completed any of them.

The only logical way I have come up with to possibly make sense of my procrastinatia is hedonism. Hedonism is the seeking of pleasure and the avoidance of pain – whatever it is, I have it and there’s no cure. The only solution I see is to find a profession where there are no deadlines or where deadlines are not enforced and where they do not expect you to show up on time – ever. Best of luck to me.

The Reason Why Change is Essential to Success

The importance of change in its effects upon mankind is not to be underestimated. It has been our capability to change and adapt that has made us the most successful animals in the world. If we weren’t capable of change there would be no buildings, cars, aeroplanes or computer systems. In times of need humans have effected change in their actions so they can save lives.

The potential of change extends to the outward world about us, not merely toward ourselves. We continue to shape the environment so as to make living less hazardous or contented, as our forefathers did. The significant changes of the 20th century have changed our lives so profoundly that it can be difficult to imagine another way of life. It’s the high-speed swiftness of change that makes new challenges to overcome. Additionally it is no exaggeration that the fast swiftness of change also makes new possibilities for us to embrace.

The successful person is always willing to adapt and change aided by the world around them. The genuinely successful person is one who is able to create change in the world about them. An attentive and inquisitive mind is a must have. Consequently, the successful people needs to be sensitive towards the goings on in the world around them. A highly regarded businessman, for instance, needs to be mindful of gaps in the market that they are willing to exploit.

A positive frame of mind will form the base of a can-do frame of mind. People who think positively are far more likely to see challenges as compared with problems, or possibilities besides difficulties. The positive mental attitude of the flourishing marketers shows that opportunity grows into a reality, because they also have the drive and motivation to ensure success and make their desire come true. Therefore, as you have seen, there may be much to be gained from expanding the state of optimism in your personality regarding change. The problem for many people is in growing it and overcoming bad habits.

Among the many reasons top businessmen are capable of adapt and change so readily is for the reason that they stay optimistic in his or her appraisal of change. Instead of running, terrified of the unrecognised, successful business persons are eternal optimists. A change equals a fresh opportunity. It is hardly surprising that the most dynamic and successful individuals are those who change and shift accordingly to the surroundings and the circumstances. It fits in with what Darwin termed “survival of the fittest”. The most successful species are individuals that have adapted to their conditions and used adaptions to change when essential. Therefore allow that change is part and parcel of living. Without it we would grow to be stagnant and uninteresting.

Therefore encourage optimism- optimists are self- disciplined and persistent in what they want to achieve in their lifespan. Optimists design and take action to make progress. They constantly learn about how to get better at their skills. Their self- confidence aids them think about answers and lead them to success in their aims. Should you be pessimistic it is time you get rid of your pessimistic attitude and develop optimism in its place. There isn’t any place in the world of success for negative attitudes. Take into consideration what you can do besides what you cannot.
It is surely no exaggeration regarding humanity that we frequently regard what we are not good at as more significant than what we are. Inspections at work usually provide comments on areas that demand enhancement whereas school reports may be packed with praise but are always encouraging growth and development in other parts. Focusing on deficiencies is certainly very important to self development, but being overly critical and analytical isn’t. The trick is to find the balance. It is important to remind yourself what you can be good at if you are to have the assurance to take on other things.

Having the courage to learn and change won’t necessarily make you a happy person, however it will help you negotiate hard times more smoothly and successfully as well as learn from these experiences. Knowing how your brain works helps you know when and how to interject in managing your mind to make the process of adaptation happen more efficiently and perhaps more speedily. It also makes it possible to monitor both the conscious and unconscious spheres of your mind and provides you with feedback about whether you are adapting efficiently.
