Sticks & Stones May Break My Bones but WORDS?

Sticks & Stones May Break My Bones But WORDS?

Sorry for not being able to write for some time.

I have been traveling like crazy!

Fyi: China doesn’t allow its citizens to read blogs hence you cant open any blogging sites there.

What I want to talk about today is how words affect us.

The full stanza is:

Sticks and stones may break my bones,

But words will never hurt me

You think that is true?

Ever notice that the moment you use a word to describe how you are feeling at that moment, you soon find yourself actually feeling that way. What we say tends to be our self-fulfilling prophecy.I have already said a little about this in I am-No-Good Syndrome .

When asked a simple question: How are you?

We begin with:

‘Could be much much better’

‘If it were not for my boss, my partner, My X, My Y, My Z, life would have been better!’

‘I am alright.’

‘Chal raha hai’  (‘Getting by’)

‘Zindagi katt rahi hai’ (I am living life…Or rather Life is living me..or cutting me? lol)

Most of us have similar replies, some do it intentionally and some unintentionally. Lets not get into percentages here, I know who will win! I have seen enough positivity around.

Most of our troubles stem from the language we use to describe that particular happenstance our lives.

If we think that we have a ‘problem’ then we have one… But if we think of the it is a petty ‘thing’ that you have to take care of… it is a small thing. It’s all in the words you describe it.

This headache is going to KILL ME!

I am dead!

My boss will hang me! (sorry bosses.. but that’s usually how you are referred to!)

There is good news and bad news:

Good News: If you use better or positive words to describe yourself, you will feel positive and upbeat and would like to resolve whatever is happening in your life.

Bad News: If you keep describing yourself and your life negatively, it will become more and more like it. Today, you are only thinking bad thoughts, but tomorrow because of how you think your life could actually become like it!

This interesting quote from Mark Twain says it all:

“I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened”

The interesting thing about trouble – or problems of whatever we call them – is that most of them are in our minds. Most of them never actually happen, but since we worry about them so much, our focus is on the problem rather than other beautiful things or solutions around us!

And the usual first two words of the ‘problem’ are:

WHAT IF….

What if this happened…

What if that happened.

What if there is an earthquake!

What if my boss fired me!

What if I die!

And the list is limitless!

Now its your choice to keep thinking of the trouble you could have… or live life the way it is!

With Joy and Happiness!

There are things that happen to us in this world which are sad:

Loss of a loved one

Getting fired

Separated

Divorced

Getting Married (hahaha kidding!)

Etc etc…these things (except the last one of course) do make us sad and there is nothing wrong in being sad a little, even crying. But, the trouble begins when you think that your whole LIFE is SAD… or your existence is sad.

“There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.”

This prayer has a powerful concept if taken positively:

“God grant me courage to change the things I can;

The serenity to accept the things I cannot change;

And wisdom to know the difference!”

Keep shining!

Keep Laughing!

Dare to dream!

Have a great life!
